WTF

Someone just posted this video in one of the dog communities.

WTF

This guy makes Cesar look like a good dog trainer, one who is kind and gentle, and who has no ego.

I do see a few key things that dog trainers do seem to agree on - the dogs need structure, and when the dog does something wrong, yelling at them is not the way to do it.

I know that this was only a 5 minute clip, but none of those dogs LOOKED cowed and terrified of him to me. I've seen enough Dog Whisperer to know that Ceasar tends to scare the shit out of the dogs he works with. His heart seems in the right place, but there are certainly some things in this clip that made me go "ZOMG WHY???" Potentially damaging the dog's throat = NO. "Breaking" the dog = NO. He seems to use the term "breaking" and "correction" synonymously, and they are not the same thing. I'd be interested to actually see a full episode of this show, and see if the dogs are as scared shitless of him as they are of Ceasar Milan.

I still prefer Victoria Stillwell. But to my knowledge, she doesn't work with the kind of dogs this guy is. I think it'd be great to see her do so.

I really hope this doesn't become a real show. *sigh* The idea of breaking a dog just sickens me. He is far too arrogant (I don't really give a shit if he's some "omg awesome photographer" and whatever else he went on and on about being in the beginning) and he seems to be all dominance + breaking the dog.

And aren't prong collars not to be used for corrections? He kept using one for that, jerking the dog around on it. They don't look scared, yet...but he has no clue what he's doing.

I think, from what I recall, Stillwell won't deal with a seriously aggressive dog on TV, understanding that that is NOT the place to deal with aggression or severe fear. I frankly don't think such dogs should be on a TV show as they're often fearful and cameras and a lot of people around are likely to make it worse.

That's a shame, because this guy and Ceasar Milan are the ones on TV, and people think that's the way to do it.

I keep trying to get a friend to see that Ceasar Milan is an idiot, but he refuses to do so. His justification? "All I know is, this guy has a TV show, and I don't." I wanted to retort "Yeah? Dr. Phil has a TV show too. That doesn't mean he knows what he's doing!" But he borderline abuses his dog because it's what Ceasar Milan does. I told him "You know, if Jenny weren't such a submissive dog, you wouldn't be able to do what you do to her." He claims she's a dominant, not a submissive. When it comes to dogs and dog training, I want to slap my friend.

I've even tried to get him to watch Victoria Stillwell, and my boyfriend has tried to appeal to his male-ness "Dude, she's like a hot, British dominatrix!" and he still won't watch her show. Because CLEARLY, Ceasar is God. Ugh.

God SO RIGHT.

Does this guy actually have a TV show or is he hoping to have one? I thought it was the latter? *sigh*

Victoria is great. She knows what she's doing and does well with the dog. I HATE this Cesar is god attitude. It drives me nuts. And everyone who knows I love dogs and dog training comes up to me and is like "omg I watched Cesar and I love his show" and are shocked when I tell them I can't stand the guy and he doesn't know what he's doing.

I'm not sure. I'm going to assume that he's hoping for a show. And rehabbing of vicious dogs that are on death row is a pretty good sell. I mean, the USA loves dogs, and we want to see them rehabbed and sent off to a good home. So if he doesn't have a show, I wouldn't be suprised if he gets one using that angle. :/

I even tried to get my friend to read up on the latest research involving dog training and dog behavior. No dice. :(

Let's just say that if I ever see this man walking around my back yard, he'll be walking out with a 56 degree gap wedge up his rear end.

I had dogs as a kid, and it's not that I disrespect the guy or anything. But I do recognize when a man's ego has started to eat itself. Happens to the best of us, haha!

I can't really tell how I feel based on a short clip.

It was all 'ME ME ME' and not so much about the dogs. I don't like the use of a prong on an aggressive dog though, and I don't like that he lets the dog push past it's threshold so fast (such as the part where they were going at it through the fence almost)

It's the "me me me" thing that set me off at first. That coupled with his statements about getting in their faces and breaking them. Plus using a prong for corrections on an aggressive dog, which HE allowed to go over threshold.

Just...no.

Eh, yeah. The prong puts a bad taste in my mouth - but I didn't want to judge TOO harsh on such a short bit.

The FIRST thing we did when we took in Thunder was take his choke chain off (who lets a dog run around with one of those damn things all the time anyway?!) and we've never looked back. XD

So far other people are positive about it. I can't believe so many people support that shit. And here's the kicker: if you comment with criticism of his video on youtube, it gets deleted. And ratings are disabled. What a douche.

I couldn't watch the entire thing before stopping it in disgust. I'm not a trainer by any means of the word, but yanking a dog around and creating negative situations in order to tire the dog out and claim it's calm? Disgusting!

Wow, what an egomaniac! Some of the thing he said and the way he said them was hysterical.

When he mentioned 'breaking' the dogs though I definately winced. Do not want.
