My dog is weird

I know I've said that before...but last night she proved how weird she is AGAIN.

I took her out for her late night pee walk. She got very interested in a cat that ran across the road and up the walkway near someone's house. Usually she ignores them, but not this time. She didn't chase, but she tried to follow it. I stopped her.

The cat just sat there, tail twitching, about 10 feet away from her.

Dahlia just stood there, tail slowing wagging.

I finally said "Go get it!"

And Dahlia rushed forward a few feet and play bowed.

To a cat.

A feral cat.

Which then ran away because "OMG SCARY BIG DOG IS RUNNING AT ME."

Yeah it didn't work so well and Dahlia was bewildered. But then I called her to me and we headed home.

I don't quite get why she rarely play bows to dogs, but has offered them to horses (does she think they're gigantic dogs?) and cats. What a weirdo.

Ahahaha, that is so cute!

As for the horses thing...they may spark some urge in her to start herding. There was a German Shepherd at the barn I grew up riding at named Kristy who would regularly go out to Indy, the stallion's, pasture and play with him. We knew when Kristy was playing with Indy because we'd hear a steady stream of BARK! BARK! BARK! BARK! as she chased him. And we knew they were playing because Indy would have his ears up, and his tail flipped over his back while they alternated chasing each other. It was ridiculously adorable and I wish someone had thought to capture it on video.

I kind of wonder if it could be some herding instinct. One of the times she did it, another class member (Drake, the border collie) did the SAME thing right next to her. And then suddenly the two of them threw themselves backwards like the hounds of hell were after them. Weirdest thing we've ever seen and Drake's person and I couldn't figure out what happened. The horses must have done SOMETHING to freak the two dogs out because they did the same thing at the same time.

Hee! They probably weren't expecting any kind of response from the horses. And if the horses were used to dogs, they may have been telling the two dogs "Try it and we'll eat your tails!" Hahahahahaha! XD

I swear the horses didn't even MOVE. But they had to have done something that freaked out the dogs.

The horses there are very used to dogs around. The barn is right next to where we do agility, the horses are in the fields right near there, and sometimes come into the place we do agility. They're pretty dog savvy I'm sure (even Tina said our dogs stalking them and barking at them wouldn't faze them at all).

Yeah, at CHF (the first barn I rode at) none of the high-strung Saddleseat horses even batted an eyelash at dogs, because there were always barn dogs around.

yep, it seems the Weird Gene is dominant (excuse the word, lol) in both Dahlia and Terra!
